The Boys and Girls Club of Kenosha recently hosted an engaging sailing event on March 13, 2024, in collaboration with the Kenosha Yacht Club and the Chasing Bubbles Foundation. Local youth participated in hands-on activities, learning essential boating skills and safety practices before embarking on sailing trips in the picturesque Kenosha Harbor.

Participants, including Ka’myra Williams, 11, practiced throwing ropes and gained valuable insights into sailing techniques. This event not only provided a unique opportunity for youth to connect with experienced sailors but also reinforced important safety measures associated with boating.

John Mirant, another 11-year-old participant, demonstrated his skills by tossing a personal flotation device to Laura Bauke, a representative from the Kenosha Yacht Club. The event emphasized the importance of safety equipment, ensuring that all young sailors understood how to properly utilize flotation devices while on the water.

The collaboration between the Boys and Girls Club of Kenosha, the Kenosha Yacht Club, and the Chasing Bubbles Foundation aimed to inspire youth and promote confidence in water activities. Participants learned about sailing boat safety and had the chance to sail alongside seasoned boaters, further solidifying their knowledge through real-life experience.

On this day, several sailboats adorned the Kenosha Harbor, creating a vibrant scene as children boarded vessels, eager to learn and explore. Hosea Otero, 13, was among the youth who received personal flotation devices from Bauke, illustrating the hands-on approach taken during the event.

This initiative highlights the ongoing commitment of local organizations to foster youth engagement in outdoor activities, particularly those related to water safety and sailing. The partnership not only serves to educate young people but also aims to build community connections among participants and local boating experts.

Overall, the sailing event provided an enriching experience for the Boys and Girls Club members, combining education, safety, and adventure in a supportive environment. As the day concluded, the excitement and smiles reflected the success of this collaborative effort, paving the way for future similar initiatives.
