Bemidji High School’s recent production of “The Addams Family” has garnered significant recognition, receiving several Outstanding Individual Honors from the Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Spotlight Education program. The program evaluates theatrical productions across Minnesota, emphasizing artistic excellence, storytelling, and student development in theatre education.

As stated in a recent press release, “These accolades represent some of Spotlight’s highest recognitions and reflect exceptional achievement in performance, vocal work, character development, and technical professionalism.” The awards highlight the dedication and talent of the students involved.

Among those honored were Sophia Hordichok, who portrayed Wednesday Addams, and Benjamin Schoneck as Gomez Addams. Other notable recognitions included Annika Selberg for her role as Alice Beineke, Isabel Neal as Morticia Addams, and Brionna Zierden, who excelled in technical leadership as a stagehand.

Evaluators from the Spotlight program attended multiple performances and commended the cast for their musicality and emotional depth. They noted the strength, presence, and maturity displayed by the leading actors and technicians from Bemidji High School, showcasing the high level of talent present in the production.

Recognition at Annual Spotlight Showcase

All students who received Spotlight honors will be formally recognized at the annual Spotlight Showcase, scheduled to take place at the State Theatre in Minneapolis this spring. This event will include workshops, performances, and award presentations that celebrate high school theatre across the state.

The recognition of Bemidji High School’s production not only highlights the individual talents of the students but also underscores the importance of supporting arts education in schools. By fostering an environment where students can flourish in the performing arts, programs like Spotlight provide invaluable opportunities for young artists to develop their skills and gain recognition for their hard work.
