West Seneca Couple Expecting Quintuplets After Fertility Struggles

A couple from West Seneca, New York, is preparing for an extraordinary winter as they expect quintuplets after overcoming significant fertility challenges. Jessica and Jonathan Lottbrein, who already have two daughters, are embracing the upcoming arrival of three girls and two boys.

Jessica, 31, shared her surprise at the news, likening it to a “buy 1, get 4 free special.” Quintuplets are exceedingly rare, even with the aid of fertility treatments. According to medical experts, the likelihood of conceiving five babies simultaneously remains remarkably low.

The couple’s journey to parenthood has not been easy. They endured the heartbreak of an ectopic pregnancy and faced a year filled with emotional struggles. “I was ready to give up,” Jessica recounted. Despite these setbacks, they persisted with fertility treatments and were overjoyed to learn they were expecting.

At their first ultrasound, doctors initially suspected they were having twins. However, a subsequent visit revealed a shocking twist. “I go back two weeks later and we see three circles pop up on the screen. I’m like, triplets? The nurse practitioner is like no,” Jessica explained. The news of quintuplets soon settled in, bringing both excitement and concern.

Jonathan Lottbrein explained that doctors recommended reducing the number of pregnancies to twins to mitigate health risks. However, the couple was adamant about giving all five babies a chance. “If there wasn’t anything wrong, it didn’t feel right,” he stated. Fortunately, all five babies have strong heartbeats and are developing well.

Jessica and Jonathan are now preparing for the logistical challenges of raising five children. Their friend and co-worker, Stacey Eastman, highlighted the support network surrounding the couple. “She’s going to be out of work for a long time between being possibly on bed rest then delivery,” Eastman said. To assist the family during this transition, friends and family are organizing a fundraiser on GoFundMe to help Jessica stay home longer after the birth.

As they await the arrival of their quintuplets, the Lottbreins remain optimistic and grateful. “I think it’s meant to be, fate,” Jessica concluded, expressing her belief that this journey is part of their destiny.
