Remembering David Richard English: A Life of Dedication and Passion

David Richard English, a beloved member of the Sneads, Florida community, passed away at his home on August 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by family in his final moments, English’s life was marked by dedication to his career in mental health, love for his family, and a passion for various interests.
Born on September 30, 1950, in Lansing, Michigan, David’s early life was shaped by his father’s service in the U.S. Air Force, which led the family to move frequently. At the age of 10, they settled in Florida, where David would spend the remainder of his life. He attended several schools, including Durrance Elementary School and Oak Ridge High School in Orlando. He later pursued higher education at the University of Florida in Gainesville, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1972 and earning a Master’s in Education in 1980.
David enjoyed a rewarding career in mental health, starting at the Orlando Sunland Center and working at various facilities, including the Sunland Centers in Gainesville and Marianna, and concluding his career at the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee. Alongside his professional endeavors, he successfully operated a chestnut farm known as L&E Farms.
Family was a cornerstone of David’s life. He is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth Ann English and her fiancé, William Pineda, of Sanford, Florida, and Jennifer Lynn English, who resides in Cheongju, South Korea. Additionally, he leaves behind his sisters, Marti C. English and her husband, John J. Gray, of San Ramon, California, and Laurie A. English of Lecanto, Florida, along with his half-brother, Peter Hamlett, from Richland, Michigan.
David’s interests extended beyond his professional life. He was an avid fan of the Florida Gators, a passion reflected in his home. His love for Porsches was well-known, and he cherished his time playing golf with friends across the United States. He also attended racing events with his friends from Team Mimosa, where he enjoyed both the thrill of the sport and the camaraderie it brought.
The family expresses their deep gratitude to the staff of Emerald Coast Hospice and Stethoscope Staffing, LLC for their compassionate care during David’s final days.
A celebration of David’s life will be organized at a later date, allowing friends and family to gather and honor his memory. A private funeral service will take place in Bad Axe, Michigan, with details to be finalized. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor David’s legacy may contribute to the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholarship, which supports Florida high school students pursuing education at the University of Florida.
David Richard English will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his impactful career, and his vibrant spirit that touched the lives of many.
