Reading Hospital Hosts Free Health Fair for Community Wellness

Reading Hospital’s community wellness department is organizing a free health and wellness fair named “Fuel Up for Fall Community Recharge.” The event will take place on **August 27, 2023**, from **16:00 to 18:30** at the Olivet Boys & Girls Club, located at **1161 Pershing Blvd**. This initiative aims to promote health awareness and provide valuable resources to community members.
The first **150 attendees** will receive a complimentary grab-and-go dinner from the Hispanic Center. Participants will also have the chance to win several exciting giveaways and raffle prizes, including a **Ninja Foodi Possible Cooker Pro**, Family Wellness and First Aid Basket, Brew & Go Coffee Lovers Basket, and Self-Care Essentials Basket.
Health Resources and Community Engagement
In addition to giveaways, the fair will feature various hospital departments and community partners offering essential health, wellness, and safety information. Notably, the **Reading Fire Department** will conduct CPR/AED demonstrations, while **Safe Berks** will provide safety check-ins. The **Mobile Mammography Coach** from Reading Hospital will be available for tours and breast cancer education, further emphasizing the event’s focus on health awareness.
Activities will include a mini stretch zone, healthy snack samples, health information and education stations, as well as tables staffed by community partners. Wellness experts will also be present to answer any health-related questions attendees may have.
“We are excited to have fun and hear directly from community members about their health needs,” said **Tanieka Mason**, director of health equity at Tower Health. “This work is incredibly important, and I’m glad we will have an opportunity to share resources and explain how we support health and wellness in our community.”
National Community Health Worker Awareness Week
The fair coincides with the observance of National Community Health Worker Awareness Week, which runs from **August 25 through 29**. “Our community wellness team is committed to building a healthier community,” stated **Desha Dickson**, vice president of community wellness at Tower Health. “We want to meet people where they are and make access to healthcare as easy as possible.”
