Jamestown Regional Medical Center Champions Breast Health in October

October marks a significant focus on breast health at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC), which transforms into what it calls “Pinky Swear Headquarters.” This initiative encourages women to prioritize their health through a commitment to advanced technology and compassionate care. The program highlights the importance of accessible services for all women in the region.
Trisha Jungels, Chief Nursing Officer at JRMC, emphasizes the facility’s dedication to women’s health as a fundamental aspect of community well-being. She stated, “Women’s health is a cornerstone of community health, and we are dedicated to breaking down barriers to care.” This commitment extends beyond technology, aiming to foster a healthier future for the entire area.
To enhance breast health services, JRMC employs cutting-edge technology such as contrast-enhanced digital mammography (CEDM). This method is particularly effective for women with dense breast tissue, as it provides clearer images, facilitating the early detection of potential issues. Conrad Mitzel, the radiology manager at JRMC, noted, “At JRMC, women’s health — especially breast health — is a top priority because early detection saves lives.”
Accessibility is a core focus of the Pinky Swear initiative. Recognizing that traditional mammogram procedures may pose challenges for some patients, JRMC has introduced a mammography chair. This alternative ensures that women who experience mobility challenges or chronic pain can undergo screenings comfortably. Mitzel explained, “Our goal is to remove barriers so that every woman in our community feels empowered to prioritize her health.”
Barriers to care can also involve financial constraints. JRMC is actively expanding its No Excuses program, which ensures that women, regardless of their insurance status, receive the necessary care. This program allows access to mammograms, Pap tests, and advanced screenings without income restrictions. The medical center’s representatives assist patients in navigating registration for these essential services.
JRMC Foundation Director Tonya Perkins remarked, “JRMC’s Pinky Swear Headquarters highlights the importance of early detection and keeping the promise to care for one another.” She underscored the commitment to making screenings accessible for everyone in the community.

As JRMC continues to prioritize breast health, the center reinforces its promise to support women in their health journeys.
