The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall affecting approximately 30,000 tea bags due to a potential risk of salmonella. The affected product is the Senna Leaf Herbal Tea sold by Celebration Herbals in a 24-pack format. These tea bags were distributed across several states, including New York, Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, and Wisconsin.

Consumers should take immediate action if they possess the affected products, which have the UPC code 628240201829 and lot code 251004. The expiration date for these tea bags is October 29, 2028. The FDA has not yet classified the recall, but it has advised that consumers refrain from consuming the impacted tea bags. Instead, they should either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase.

Salmonella infections can lead to a range of symptoms that typically manifest within 12 to 72 hours after exposure. Common symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, which generally resolve within four to seven days without the need for medical treatment. However, in severe cases, individuals may experience a high fever, body aches, headaches, lethargy, rashes, and blood in the urine or stool. Such severe infections can pose serious health risks, potentially leading to fatal outcomes.

The FDA emphasizes the importance of public awareness regarding this recall. For those who may have purchased the affected tea, monitoring for symptoms of salmonella is crucial. If symptoms develop, it is advisable to seek medical attention, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, young children, and those with weakened immune systems.

The recall highlights ongoing concerns about food safety in the consumer market. Consumers are encouraged to stay informed about product recalls and food safety alerts to minimize health risks associated with contaminated products.

As this situation unfolds, further updates from the FDA and Celebration Herbals are anticipated. In the meantime, consumers are urged to take necessary precautions regarding their health and safety.
