Celebrating Resilience: Prematurity Awareness Month Spotlights Preemies
November marks Prematurity Awareness Month, dedicated to recognizing the remarkable strength of preterm infants and the unwavering support provided by their families and healthcare professionals. Each year, over 360,000 babies are born prematurely in the United States, accounting for approximately 10% of all births. These infants face significant challenges during their fragile early days.
Dr. Diana Pontell, a board-certified pediatrician and mother of two, emphasizes the specialized care required for premature babies. Even basic items, such as diapers, necessitate thoughtful design to accommodate their unique needs. In response, Pampers developed the Extra Extra Small size of their Swaddlers, tailored for infants weighing less than 1.1 lbs. This innovation aims to ensure comfort and protection for the tiniest patients.
Collaboration for Healthier Outcomes
Pampers has established itself as the preferred choice among NICU professionals, being the first brand to collaborate with neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) to create diapers specifically designed to minimize skin abrasion on these vulnerable infants. For over 25 years, Pampers has partnered with the March of Dimes, a leading organization dedicated to improving maternal and infant health. This collaboration has focused on promoting healthier outcomes for both mothers and their babies.
This November, Pampers continues its commitment to supporting families in NICUs by donating to the March of Dimes NICU Family Support program. This initiative aids more than 50,000 families each year, providing essential guidance, education, and emotional support during challenging times.
As awareness about prematurity grows, it is crucial to recognize both the challenges faced by premature infants and the dedication of those who care for them. Celebrating Prematurity Awareness Month not only honors these resilient babies but also highlights the importance of community support and medical innovation in improving their lives.
