The Student Health and Wellness Center (SHAW) is hosting a training session titled “You Can Help! Prevent Suicide” on November 4, 2023. This session will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will take place in Bolton Hall. The training aims to equip students with essential skills to assist their peers who may be experiencing emotional distress or suicidal thoughts.

“You Can Help! Prevent Suicide” is a comprehensive bystander intervention program designed to empower individuals to take proactive steps in supporting those in crisis. Participants will learn how to identify warning signs and engage effectively with fellow students in a compassionate manner.

Students interested in attending are encouraged to register through the SHAW website. This training represents a vital opportunity to foster a supportive campus environment, promoting mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

The importance of such initiatives cannot be overstated. Mental health challenges are increasingly prevalent among young adults, and programs like this aim to create a community where individuals feel safe seeking help and offering support. By participating, students not only gain valuable knowledge but also contribute to a culture that prioritizes mental wellbeing.

As the event approaches, SHAW highlights the critical role students play in each other’s lives. The training is not only an educational experience but also a step towards building resilience and compassion within the campus community.
