Bristol Palin has shared a candid update regarding her ongoing struggle with facial paralysis, revealing that she has been affected for over 323 days. In a video posted on her Instagram Stories on January 3, 2024, the 35-year-old discussed the challenges she faces, stating, “Not looking great.”

Palin first experienced the symptoms of facial paralysis approximately nine days before her July 2023 video. She recalled waking up with an unusual sensation on one side of her face, which quickly escalated to noticeable paralysis. “I went and looked in the mirror. I’m like, ‘Wow, this is looking a little weird,’” she explained. Shortly after noticing the changes, she visited a doctor who conducted tests, including a CT scan. Despite these efforts, the medical team could not identify a clear cause and suggested it might be a case of Bell’s palsy, potentially triggered by stress or lack of sleep.

The Mayo Clinic describes Bell’s palsy as a temporary condition that leads to sudden weakness in the facial muscles. As Palin described her experience, she noted significant difficulties with her facial expressions: “Couldn’t really blink my eye, definitely had no movement on the side of my face.”

In her recent update, Palin expressed a sense of cautious optimism. “I’m finally starting to get some of the sensation back. It’s been, like, a little painful the last two days, which is a good indication that it’s getting better, so praise the Lord,” she said. She has also turned to alternative treatments, including acupuncture, which she credits with expediting her recovery. “I would highly suggest going more of the Eastern medicine,” she advised.

Despite the challenges, Palin maintains a light-hearted perspective on her situation. She humorously mentioned that she plans to eventually seek Botox treatment for one of her eyes, as it tends to become noticeably smaller when she smiles. “At least I’ve got cute sunglasses,” she added, showcasing her resilient attitude.

Reflecting on her experience, Palin noted that her condition has improved but still feels incomplete. “I can’t look at pictures of myself,” she said, estimating her recovery at about 70 percent back to normal. She reiterated the sudden onset of her condition, describing it as completely unexpected: “I woke up and it was paralyzed, completely out of the blue.”

Palin’s experience serves as a reminder of the unexpected challenges many face with health issues. Her openness about her journey not only provides insight into her personal struggles but also highlights the importance of seeking medical advice promptly when symptoms arise. As she continues her recovery, her story resonates with those who have experienced similar health challenges, offering a message of hope and resilience.
