Valve has introduced a new character named The Doorman to its game Deadlock, allowing players to create two interconnected doors on nearly any flat wall, enabling rapid teleportation across the map. This innovative feature evokes memories of Valve’s classic title, Portal. The character was added late last night as part of Valve’s plan to gradually roll out a total of six new heroes over the next two weeks.

According to Valve’s official blog, “He’s proper, he’s polite, but the humble Doorman of The Baroness Hotel is more than meets the eye.” The Doorman can disorient nearby enemies with a brisk ring of his Call Bell, while his high-speed Luggage Cart can knock opponents off their feet.

The blog post humorously addresses players who may find themselves lost in the streets of Manhattan, stating, “Don’t worry, The Doorman is here to provide a shortcut with his Doorway whenever the need arises.” The character is designed to offer unique advantages, showcasing a blend of utility and playful interaction within the game’s environment.

Gameplay footage of The Doorman reveals a character capable of engaging enemies at various ranges. He wields a punchy pistol, and his movement is accentuated by the sound of jingling keys attached to his outfit. This attention to detail adds a layer of personality to the character, making him both visually and functionally intriguing.

Players can anticipate further character reveals, with the next hero debuting on August 25. Valve encourages players to participate in the voting process over the weekend to influence the order of character introductions. Although future updates will be “a little bit more spaced out,” Valve assures fans that they can expect significant improvements in the development process and larger patches in the future.

As the gaming community eagerly awaits the next installment, The Doorman’s arrival highlights Valve’s commitment to innovation and player engagement within the evolving landscape of Deadlock.
