Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Returns to Theaters for 35th Anniversary

The beloved film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, will return to theaters for a special theatrical rerelease from August 15 to August 21, 2025. This event celebrates the 35th anniversary of the original movie, first released in 1990. Fans will have the opportunity to experience the film on the big screen once more, courtesy of Fathom Events.
Directed by the renowned Steve Barron, the original film captivated audiences with its groundbreaking use of costumes designed by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. The combination of animatronics and clay suits successfully brought the characters—Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo—to life in a way that continues to resonate with fans today.
Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Entertainment, expressed enthusiasm for the rerelease, stating, “Few titles in recent memory have as large and rabid a fanbase as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s Turtle Time, and Fathom Entertainment is proud to be part of Turtlemania and help make possible a 35th anniversary celebration like no other on the big screen.”
Special Features Enhance the Anniversary Experience
The rerelease offers more than just a chance to relive the film; it will also include a special featurette titled Turtles Unmasked. This exclusive addition provides insights into the making of the movie, showcasing never-before-seen archival footage, extended scenes, and behind-the-scenes clips. Fans can expect to see material from Barron’s personal video diary, where he reflects on the challenges faced while bringing the iconic turtles to life.
The featurette was produced in collaboration with the creators of TMNT: Evolution, Mutation & Reboot, ensuring that it captures the essence of the original film while offering fresh perspectives.
The anticipation surrounding this rerelease highlights the enduring popularity of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. Since its inception, the series has expanded into numerous sequels and adaptations across various media, and it continues to attract new generations of fans.
As the August dates approach, moviegoers can look forward to not only a nostalgic trip down memory lane but also a deeper understanding of how the original film came to be. The excitement surrounding the event promises to be a celebration of both the film and its cultural impact over the years.
For those eager to revisit this classic or experience it for the first time, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theatrical rerelease is poised to be a highlight of the summer cinema calendar.
