Steph Curry and Michael Mina Revitalize San Francisco’s Dining Scene

San Francisco’s dining scene is experiencing a significant revitalization with the reopening of Bourbon Steak and the launch of the whiskey bar The Eighth Rule, both located at the Westin St. Francis. This new venture features a collaboration between NBA star Steph Curry and renowned chef Michael Mina, marking Curry’s entry into the hospitality industry. The Eighth Rule will prominently showcase Curry’s bourbon brand, Gentleman’s Cut, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.
This joint project not only symbolizes Mina’s return to a location that holds personal significance but also showcases Curry’s transition from sports celebrity to a new realm of entrepreneurship. Mina, celebrated for his innovative take on dining, is committed to redefining the steakhouse experience. He expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “You get sick of everyone telling you San Francisco is dead,” emphasizing his dedication to the city’s culinary revival.
Exclusive Experience at The Eighth Rule
The Eighth Rule promises an exclusive atmosphere with just 40 seats, inviting guests to immerse themselves in Curry’s vision for a premier bourbon experience. Reservations are required to maintain this exclusivity. The partnership between Curry and Mina has been in the works since 2017, blending the worlds of celebrity, sports, and fine dining in a unique way that San Francisco has yet to see. In a statement, Curry shared his excitement: “Creating my own bourbon brand paired with my friendship with Michael is like a master class in hospitality!”
Signature Dishes and Innovative Cocktails
At Bourbon Steak, diners can look forward to experiencing Mina’s signature dishes, such as the table-side tuna tartare, alongside inventive new offerings like caviar Twinkies. Meanwhile, The Eighth Rule distinguishes itself with a carefully curated beverage program led by Anthony Attanasio, the Mina Group’s beverage program curator. Attanasio is developing a cocktail flight that explores Curry’s whiskey through innovative styles, featuring drinks such as a truffle-vanilla whiskey sour and seasonal highballs, as highlighted by Eater SF.
The collaboration between Curry and Mina represents not only a culinary milestone for San Francisco but also illustrates the potential for partnerships that merge different realms of expertise. As the city continues to navigate its post-pandemic recovery, this exciting venture may set a new standard for the local dining landscape.
