Peacock to Stream Complete Fifty Shades Trilogy in February
Peacock is set to enhance its streaming library with the addition of the entire Fifty Shades film trilogy, which will be available starting February 1, 2026. This collection includes the three films—Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, and Fifty Shades Freed—that collectively grossed over $1.32 billion at the global box office.
Film Overview and Reception
The Fifty Shades series, adapted from E. L. James’ bestselling novels, explores the complex relationship between college student Anastasia Steele, portrayed by Dakota Johnson, and billionaire businessman Christian Grey, played by Jamie Dornan. The first installment premiered in February 2015, followed by the sequels in 2017 and 2018.
Despite its commercial success, the trilogy faced harsh criticism. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the first film has a critics’ score of just 25 percent, while both sequels scored even lower, at 11 percent. Nonetheless, the films attracted a significant audience, leading to their financial triumph.
The first film introduces viewers to Anastasia as her life transforms after interviewing Christian Grey for a college assignment. Their relationship evolves into a complicated romance, revealing Grey’s emotional struggles. The sequel depicts their attempts to mend their relationship amidst lingering trauma and new challenges. The final film culminates with their marriage and the emergence of past adversaries that threaten their happiness.
Star-Studded Cast
In addition to Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, the franchise features a strong supporting cast, including Eloise Mumford as Katherine Kavanagh, Jennifer Ehle as Carla Wilks, and Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey.
As Peacock prepares to add this popular yet critically divisive series, it aims to attract both fans of the books and films, as well as new viewers. The availability of the Fifty Shades trilogy marks an important step in Peacock’s strategy to expand its offerings and compete in the increasingly crowded streaming market.
