Austin’s Paramount Theatre will mark its 111th anniversary with a themed gala featuring acclaimed musician Lukas Nelson on May 9, 2024. The event, titled “Road Trip Romance,” will evoke the spirit of the 1970s, encouraging attendees to don vintage-inspired attire reminiscent of the era’s iconic style.

The gala will kick off with a 30-minute cocktail and snack session exclusively for premium ticket holders, followed by an additional hour of refreshments accompanied by live music from local band Madam Radar. Guests will then enjoy a performance by Lukas Nelson, the son of country legend Willie Nelson and a notable artist in his own right.

Evening Highlights and Culinary Delights

After the performance, a late dinner will be served from 21:00 to 23:00. The meal, designed to reflect the spirit of a classic diner experience, will be prepared by Chef Michael Fojtasek of Olamaie, who serves as the Paramount’s culinary chair, alongside several unnamed culinary partners. Guests will have the opportunity to dance to music from the Love & Happiness Band, which will provide entertainment throughout the evening.

A silent auction featuring a variety of experiences, celebrations, and artisanal goods will also be part of the gala, with proceeds benefiting both the Paramount Theatre and its sister venue, the State Theatre.

To assist attendees in choosing their attire, the Paramount has developed a Pinterest vision board showcasing key fashion elements from the 1970s, including fringed dusters, bell bottoms, and denim. Tickets for the event start at $625 and are available at tickets.austintheatre.org.

Upcoming Renovations and Future Plans

The Paramount Theatre and the State Theatre are both undergoing significant renovations, with plans announced in November 2023. The Paramount will receive subtle updates aimed at preservation, while the State Theatre will undergo a comprehensive overhaul, retaining its facade but entirely reworking its interior. Both venues will close temporarily during the renovation process.

As the Paramount Theatre celebrates this milestone, it continues to strengthen its role as a cultural hub in Austin, Texas, providing memorable experiences for its patrons while also planning for a vibrant future.
