Michael Reno Harrell, an internationally recognized singer-songwriter and storyteller, will perform at a fundraising event to benefit The Shepherd’s Inn on Saturday, October 18, 2023. The concert will take place at the First Presbyterian Church of Elizabethton from 19:00 to 21:00. Admission for adults is set at $20, with all proceeds directed toward supporting the emergency shelter for women and children located in Elizabethton, Tennessee.

Tickets can be purchased through the church’s website at fpcelizabethton.org. Attendees should note that ticket sales on the night of the event will be cash-only. The church is situated at 119 West F St. in Elizabethton.

In addition to the evening concert, Harrell is scheduled to share his music and stories during the church’s regular Sunday worship service at 11:00. This service is open to all and will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person. The service will be led by Rev. Dr. Brian Wyatt, the church’s minister.

Born in Morristown, Tennessee, Harrell now resides in Morganton, North Carolina. His extensive performance career includes shows in nearly all 50 states and seven countries abroad. Harrell is particularly noted for his songwriting talents, with his works recorded by artists such as Doug Stone and Perfect Stranger. His discography includes albums like Ways to Travel, featuring collaborations with renowned bluegrass musicians including Jerry Douglas and Stuart Duncan.

Harrell’s journey into folk music began during his teenage years in the 1960s, later evolving into storytelling after he was inspired at the National Storytelling Festival in nearby Jonesborough, Tennessee.

According to Paul Gabinet, executive director of The Shepherd’s Inn, Harrell’s performance is crucial in aiding the facility’s mission. For nearly 28 years, The Shepherd’s Inn has provided vital support to victims of domestic violence and has offered emergency shelter to those in need within Carter County and surrounding areas.

The combination of Harrell’s performance and the mission of The Shepherd’s Inn underscores the importance of community support for those affected by domestic violence. This event not only promises entertainment but also serves to raise awareness and funds for a critical cause.
