MetroFresh Celebrates 20 Years of Culinary and Community Impact
MetroFresh, a cherished café in Midtown Atlanta, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this fall on October 10, 2025. Founded by actor-turned-chef Mitchell Anderson, the restaurant has become a cornerstone of the community, known for its fresh and flavorful offerings along with a strong commitment to local partnerships.
Since opening in 2005, MetroFresh has garnered a devoted following, affectionately dubbed “MetroFreshuals” by its regular patrons. The establishment is renowned for its inventive daily soups, salads, and specials, serving as a gathering place for residents, artists, and professionals alike. Anderson reflects on this journey, stating, “Reaching 20 years in the restaurant business is a milestone worth celebrating. What makes this milestone especially meaningful is the way MetroFresh has grown into part of the fabric of Atlanta—a place where people gather, create memories, and give back.”
A Commitment to Community Collaboration
MetroFresh’s mission transcends its culinary offerings. The restaurant has built enduring relationships with various local and global nonprofits, including Midtown High School’s extracurricular programs, which support student creativity and learning. Additionally, it collaborates with organizations like DIG: Development in Gardening, which focuses on improving nutrition through regenerative gardening, and World Central Kitchen, which provides emergency meals in crisis situations.
Anderson emphasizes the link between food and community, stating, “Food is at the heart of community. Whether we’re feeding families through DIG or welcoming audiences after a local theatre show, our goal is the same—to create nourishment, joy, and connection.”
Reflecting on Two Decades of Culinary Excellence
As part of the anniversary celebration, MetroFresh is taking time to reflect on the numerous meals served and lives impacted since its inception. While a private gathering will occur for staff and friends, Anderson notes that the true celebration has been ongoing, with every customer contributing to the restaurant’s legacy. To mark this significant occasion, MetroFresh will host a special evening event featuring frequent customers, staff alumni, and friends. The celebration will include live music by Ben Deignan, a local singer-songwriter who has been part of the MetroFresh experience over the years.
Looking forward, Anderson remains dedicated to the principles that have distinguished MetroFresh: fresh food crafted with care, a passion for creativity, and a commitment to serving Atlanta’s diverse communities. “Twenty years in, I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve built together,” he says. “Here’s to the next 20!”
Over the years, MetroFresh has also embraced cultural milestones, including the release of a cookbook titled “Food & Thought” and hosting a cover shoot for the band Collective Soul in its dining area. This reflects the café’s deep connections within the local arts community, further emphasizing its place in Atlanta’s cultural landscape.
As the restaurant approaches its milestone anniversary, MetroFresh continues to embody the spirit of community and creativity, remaining a beloved destination for those seeking good food and genuine connections.
