Marvel Rivals Season 3.5 Launches with Stricter Player Penalties

The highly anticipated Season 3.5 of Marvel Rivals is set to launch on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 9 AM UTC. This mid-season update promises to introduce significant changes, including a new character, Blade, who will join the roster as a Duelist. Alongside new content, NetEase aims to enhance the player experience by implementing stricter penalties aimed at reducing toxic behavior in ranked matches.
With the introduction of these penalties, players who leave games will face immediate consequences, including suspensions and severe point deductions in the ranked mode. According to NetEase, the new rules focus on discouraging disruptive actions that negatively impact the competitive environment.
Details of the New Penalties
Players who disconnect during crucial phases of the game, such as loading screens or hero selections, will encounter specific penalties. If a player disconnects within the first 70 seconds of the match, the game will be deemed invalid. For those who disconnect beyond that time, the penalties escalate based on when the disconnection occurs.
For example, if a player disconnects after 70 seconds but before 90 seconds, the game will proceed without penalty. However, for disconnects between 90 and 150 seconds, players will receive a T1 penalty and a competitive ban, regardless of the match outcome. Disconnects beyond 150 seconds result in a T2 penalty, which carries stricter repercussions.
The table below outlines the penalties associated with various disconnect scenarios:
– **Disconnect Timing**: Loading/Ban-Pick/Hero Select/≤70s
– **Reconnection**: N/A
– **Disconnected Player**: T1 Penalty (repeat scaling)
– **Other Players**: Match ends, no result
– **Disconnect Timing**: >70s and ≤90s
– **Reconnection**: N/A
– **Disconnected Player**: Normal settlement, no penalty
– **Other Players**: Normal settlement
– **Disconnect Timing**: >70s and 90–150s
– **Reconnection**: N/A
– **Disconnected Player**: T1 penalty, competitive ban
– **Other Players**: Penalized regardless of win or loss
– **Disconnect Timing**: >70s and >150s
– **Reconnection**: N/A
– **Disconnected Player**: T2 penalty, competitive ban
– **Other Players**: Penalized regardless of win or loss
These revised rules aim to create a more equitable gaming atmosphere, especially within the ranked competitive mode.
Impact on Player Experience
The penalties will become progressively more severe for repeat offenders. Players who consistently break the rules may face longer competitive bans and larger point losses. For instance, a player receiving multiple T1 penalties can expect bans ranging from 15 minutes to 5 hours, while those accumulating T2 penalties could face bans of up to 20 hours.
Quick Play mode will also see changes, with initial offenses resulting in warnings. Continued infractions will lead to bans ranging between 15 minutes and 8 hours, further tightening the grip on toxic behavior across all game modes.
In a move to support players affected by leavers, NetEase will implement a point compensation system. Teammates of players who disconnect will receive compensation to minimize the impact of their absence. This compensation is structured to favor lower-ranked players, ensuring they are not disproportionately penalized. For example, players in lower ranks like Bronze, Silver, and Gold will receive a higher compensation rate compared to those in higher tiers.
It’s important to note that the point compensation will be capped at a maximum of -1 point, meaning that even with compensation, players will still incur some penalty for the match loss.
As Season 3.5 approaches, the changes aim to foster a more enjoyable and competitive environment in Marvel Rivals. While the community has expressed concerns about the inability to play with friends under the new system, many are hopeful that these restrictions will be revised in future updates. The focus on accountability and fairness is likely to resonate well with players aiming for a better ranked experience.
