Martha Stewart Reveals Increased DM Attention from Fans After Viral Photos

Martha Stewart has disclosed that she has received a surge of flirtatious direct messages from admirers following her viral “thirst traps.” During an appearance on the “Today” show, the 84-year-old lifestyle icon candidly shared her experiences with hopeful suitors sliding into her Instagram direct messages after she posted several provocative photos.
When co-host Jenna Bush Hager inquired about who had reached out to her, Stewart humorously remarked, “Lots of people.” Despite this attention, Stewart confirmed her single status, telling Hager and co-host Rosie Perez, “No, I’m not dating anybody special,” before adding with a coy smile, “But I have lots of friends, and my friends keep me happy.”
Stewart’s foray into posting eye-catching images began at the age of 78, with her first notable post being a sultry photograph taken poolside in July 2020. In the image, she is seen emerging from her pool in a black bathing suit, complete with frosty pink lipstick and shimmering eyeshadow. The caption read, “My pool in East Hampton is the place to be on an 89 degree day! After all these years, it is a fun place to swim!!!”
The response to this daring photograph was overwhelmingly positive, with fans celebrating her youthful appearance and dubbing the post a “thirst trap,” a term used to describe provocative photos intended to attract attention. Reflecting on the impact of her initial post, Stewart remarked during a 2021 appearance on “The Ellen Show,” “I got so many proposals and so many propositions… but I had to ignore all of them. I’m a very busy person.”
Stewart’s confident embrace of her sexuality has allowed her to cultivate a new image that has drawn both attention and endorsement deals. In a 2023 interview with People magazine, she explained that her foray into thirst traps came about by accident. “I was trying to take a picture of the beautiful turquoise planter at the end of the pool, but the camera was on me, so I just snapped it,” she recounted. “It looked so good, so I posted it. I didn’t know what a ‘thirst trap’ was, but now I do. Now I’m looking for the next thirst trap. I love doing those promiscuous, provocative things because it’s just fun.”
The lifestyle guru’s bold approach to social media has not only garnered attention but has also led to significant opportunities, including her historic appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit issue in May 2023, making her the oldest person to grace the cover at the age of 81. In that shoot, she wore a striking white one-piece swimsuit with a plunging neckline and a matching burnt orange cover-up draped around her shoulders.
During her recent conversation on the “Today” show, Stewart, who celebrated her birthday last month, expressed her reluctance to discuss her age. When Hager wished her a happy 84th birthday, Stewart playfully responded, “Ugh, why do we need to talk about that?” This response aligns with her previous remarks on the topic of aging, which she has referred to as “boring.”
In her interview for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, Stewart elaborated on her views regarding aging, stating, “I think all of us should think about good living, successfully living and not aging. The whole aging thing is so boring. You know what I mean?”
Stewart’s journey is a testament to how embracing one’s identity at any age can lead to newfound opportunities and connections, inspiring many to redefine societal norms surrounding aging and femininity.
