Local Singer-Songwriter Berardo Presents Craig Bickhardt at United
On Sunday, October 1, 2023, local singer-songwriter Marc Douglas Berardo will continue his celebrated “Harbor Songs” concert series by introducing renowned songwriter Craig Bickhardt to audiences at the United Theatre in Westerly. This event promises an intimate experience as Berardo showcases Bickhardt’s impressive musical legacy, which includes co-writing songs for well-known artists such as Art Garfunkel, Kathy Mattea, and Martina McBride.
Celebrating Songwriting Talent
Bickhardt’s contributions to the music industry are significant, having penned the Judds’ hit “I Know Where I’m Going” alongside Don Schlitz and co-writing “It Must Be Love” with Brent Maher and Ty Herdon. His extensive career highlights the collaborative nature of songwriting, making this concert a unique opportunity for fans to connect with the stories behind the music.
Berardo, who has been performing for over 30 years, established the “Harbor Songs” series to share his favorite songwriters with the local community. The series began at The Malted Barley, where he hosted acclaimed artists, including Grammy-winning singer-songwriter David Olney, who tragically passed away during a performance in 2021.
After a brief hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, Berardo resumed concerts, featuring both national and regional talents such as Walt Wilkins and Danielle Miraglia. His commitment to supporting local artists remains evident, as he has included performances by Sandman Allen and The CarLeans among others.
New Venue, Continued Tradition
Following the closure of The Malted Barley in February 2023, Berardo found a new home for “Harbor Songs” at the United Theatre. The inaugural show featured Grammy-nominated artist Ari Hest along with special guest Kala Farnham. Since then, the series has continued to attract notable performers, including Grace Morrison and Abbie Gardner.
Berardo describes the “Harbor Songs” format as an opportunity for songwriters to share the inspiration and narratives behind their creations. “This concert is a chance for the audience to feel and share in the beauty and mystery of song creation,” he said, emphasizing the intimate atmosphere of the events.
Tickets for the concert featuring Craig Bickhardt are priced at $20 in advance and $25 at the door, available through the United Theatre’s website, unitedtheatre.org. For information regarding future performances, visitors can check Berardo’s website at marcdouglas.com.
