Legendary Pictures Sets Noah Centineo for Gundam Movie Role
Hollywood’s ambition to adapt the iconic anime series *Mobile Suit Gundam* is gaining momentum, with Legendary Pictures reportedly courting actor Noah Centineo for a lead role. Following the recent casting of Sydney Sweeney, Centineo’s involvement comes as the film seeks to establish its core cast. According to the Hollywood Reporter, discussions are ongoing, though Legendary has chosen to remain silent about the casting for what it describes as “sensitivity” reasons.
Prior to Centineo, the studio had approached Drew Starkey, known for his role in *Outer Banks*, for the same part. The film is said to feature Sweeney and Centineo as characters who find themselves on opposite sides of a conflict between planets, creating a compelling narrative of connection amid war.
Plot Insights and Creative Team
While specific details about the film’s plot remain sparse, it is widely believed that the characters portrayed by Sweeney and Centineo will be inspired by those from *The 08th MS Team*, a beloved entry in the Gundam franchise. This series is set during the One Year War and follows the story of Aina Sahalin, a pilot from the Principality of Zeon, and Shiro Amada, an ensign of the Earth Federation. Their relationship unfolds against a backdrop of conflict, echoing the themes of love and duty as they navigate their growing feelings amidst escalating tensions.
The film is being directed by Jim Mickle, the creator of the Netflix series *Sweet Tooth*, and he is also credited with writing the screenplay. Despite the excitement surrounding the project, Legendary has not confirmed whether it will adhere strictly to the established lore of the Gundam universe or if it will forge a new narrative path.
As fans eagerly await more information, the anticipation for a live-action adaptation of *Mobile Suit Gundam* continues to build. The combination of established talent and a rich source material presents both opportunities and challenges for the filmmakers.
With casting discussions still underway, further announcements are expected in the coming months, as the production seeks to finalize its roster of talent and move forward with filming. The interest in this project reflects a growing trend in Hollywood to adapt popular anime and video game franchises, aiming to capture both nostalgic fans and new audiences alike.
