Karan Johar’s ‘Do You Wanna Partner’ Premieres on Prime Video in September

Karan Johar’s production company, Dharmatic Entertainment, has announced that the comedy-drama series “Do You Wanna Partner” will premiere on Prime Video on September 12, 2023. The series stars Tamannaah Bhatia and Diana Penty as two entrepreneurial best friends who venture into the alcohol startup industry, specifically in the craft beer segment.
The narrative follows the characters Shikha and Anahita, played by Bhatia and Penty, as they navigate the challenges of establishing their business in a male-dominated field. The series encapsulates the vibrant chaos of urban life while showcasing the duo’s determination to carve out their niche.
Karan Johar serves as producer alongside Adar Poonawalla and Apoorva Mehta, with Somen Mishra and Archit Kumar taking on executive producer roles. Kumar co-directs the series with Collin D’Cunha, while the writing team includes Nandini Gupta, Aarsh Vora, and Mithun Gongopadhyay. The series is created by Gongopadhyay and Nishant Nayak, ensuring a collaborative effort in bringing this story to life.
Exploring Themes of Female Entrepreneurship
The ensemble cast of “Do You Wanna Partner” features notable actors such as Jaaved Jaafery, Nakuul Mehta, Neeraj Kabi, Shweta Tiwari, Sufi Motiwala, and Rannvijay Singha. The series has been described by Nikhil Madhok, director and head of originals at Prime Video India, as a “bold and spirited tale of ambition, friendship, and hustle.” He emphasized the importance of relatable characters, sharp writing, and a distinctly Indian flavor, underscoring how the narrative brings female entrepreneurship to life with warmth and infectious energy.
Johar added that the series captures the “grit, heart, and hustle” of a new generation of entrepreneurs, particularly women making their mark in unconventional industries. He characterized the series as “quirky and emotional,” with elements deeply rooted in the Indian spirit of jugaad, which signifies resourceful innovation.
Producer Apoorva Mehta expressed enthusiasm for the cast, stating that the incredible ensemble has infused authenticity and warmth into every scene, enhancing the overall narrative depth. “The chemistry between Tamannaah and Diana lights up the screen,” he noted, highlighting the powerful performances that drive the story forward.
A Fresh Addition to Prime Video’s Original Slate
Executive producer Somen Mishra elaborated on the series’ unique qualities, noting that it celebrates ambition and female friendship with honesty and heart. “What sets it apart is not just its humour and vibrancy,” he stated, “but the way it connects with viewers on a personal level.”
“Do You Wanna Partner” joins a growing list of Hindi-language originals on Prime Video, which already includes acclaimed series like “Paatal Lok,” “Panchayat,” “Mirzapur,” and “The Family Man.” The addition of this new series highlights Prime Video’s commitment to diversifying its content offerings and spotlighting narratives that resonate with audiences.
