Jimmy Kimmel Critiques Trump’s Truth Social Rant in New Year Show
Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel used his first show of 2026 to critique former President Donald Trump for his recent posts on Truth Social, which Kimmel characterized as the “ramblings of a madman.” The comments followed Trump’s prolific online activity over the holiday period, where he made nearly 100 posts in the early hours of January 5, 2026, and over 550 posts during the two-week Christmas break.
Kimmel’s Monologue Highlights Trump’s Festive Threats
In his monologue, Kimmel noted the sheer volume of Trump’s output, stating, “Over the last two weeks, since we left for break, Trump posted on Truth Social 556 times. Behold, the ramblings of a madman. That is real.” This figure underscores the former president’s tendency to dominate social media discussion.
During the segment, Kimmel displayed screenshots of notable posts, including one from Christmas Eve and another from Christmas Day. Kimmel emphasized Trump’s particularly aggressive tone, recalling a post made just after midnight on Christmas Eve, where Trump threatened to “terminate” Kimmel’s show. At 12:36 a.m., Trump questioned whether late-night shows that criticize him should have their broadcast licenses revoked, stating, “If Network NEWSCASTS, and their Late Night Shows, are almost 100% Negative to President Donald J. Trump, MAGA, and the Republican Party, shouldn’t their very valuable Broadcast Licenses be terminated? I say, YES!”
Kimmel responded humorously, quipping, “And to all, a good night. This is the vision of sugar plums that are dancing in his head as he goes to sleep.” He also referenced Trump’s unusual Christmas greetings, saying, “Merry Christmas to all, including the many Sleazebags who loved Jeffrey Epstein.” Kimmel questioned Trump’s intent, saying, “What is he trying to tell us? He’s going down and he’s taking us with him?”
Trump’s Recent Activity on Truth Social
On January 5, Trump continued his social media barrage, posting a total of 89 times in just one hour. His messages ranged from critiques of U.S. immigration policy to addressing conditions in Venezuela. One notable post condemned the government as “thieving,” asking, “Tell me again, why do we pay tax money to a broken, lying, thieving government?”
Kimmel’s portrayal of Trump’s posts highlights the former president’s relentless engagement with social media, particularly as he seeks to maintain influence within Republican circles. As 2026 begins, Kimmel’s commentary reflects ongoing tensions surrounding Trump’s public persona and the implications of his social media presence for American political discourse.
