Catfish Hosts Hope for Series Revival After MTV Cancellation
MTV’s reality-based docuseries Catfish has officially been canceled after nine seasons, but hosts Nev Schulman and Max Joseph remain optimistic about the show’s future. In a recent social media video, Schulman and Joseph reflected on the series’ journey and suggested that it might not be the end, stating it could be “just on pause.”
The show, which premiered on November 12, 2012, explored the complexities of online relationships, helping numerous individuals uncover the truth behind their digital romances. The term “catfish,” popularized by the series, originated from the 2010 documentary directed by Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, which inspired the series.
In the Instagram video, Schulman announced, “After 12 years, 300 episodes, and just a lot of traveling around this incredible country, Catfish has officially been cancelled. Sorry.” Joseph, who left his hosting role after the second season but returned as a guest host, expressed hope for a potential revival, stating, “Maybe it’s just on pause.” He congratulated Schulman for his achievement in sustaining the series through a changing television landscape.
The duo took time to thank their dedicated crew and the show’s fans. Schulman expressed gratitude, saying, “Thanks to everyone who had a part in this. We are so grateful to all of you. Max, I’m so grateful to you for really being there from day one.”
As the video concluded, Schulman left viewers with a poignant message: “If we leave you with one thing, it’s this. No matter whatever happens in your life, how someone treats you, or how angry or upset you are. Never call someone a fat a– Kelly Price.” This remark references a notable moment from Season 3, Episode 2 of the program.
The duo’s reflections on the cancellation highlight the impact Catfish has had over the years, both in the realm of reality television and in the lives of its viewers, many of whom have followed the series’ journey closely. As fans await further updates, the hope for a revival remains alive, keeping the legacy of Catfish in the public conversation.
