Tesla Unveils 515-Mile Model 3 to Boost Sales in China

Tesla has launched an innovative version of its Model 3 in China, boasting an impressive range of 830 kilometers (approximately 515 miles) on a single charge. This new option, which is set to begin deliveries in September 2025, aims to reinvigorate the brand’s sales in a market that has become increasingly competitive.

The latest Model 3 variant is priced at RMB 269,500 (about $37,540), a notable increase in range compared to previous trims. For context, the longest-range Model 3 available in the United States has a maximum range of 363 miles (584 km) and starts at $35,000. The new offering in China significantly exceeds the former range ratings of the Model 3, which were 713 kilometers (443 miles) prior to July 1 and 753 kilometers (468 miles) after that date.

Key Features of the New Model 3

The upgraded Model 3 utilizes a 78.4 kWh battery, sourced from LG Energy Solution. This new trim adds to the existing lineup that includes the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 Standard Range, the all-wheel-drive Model 3 Long Range, and the all-wheel-drive Model 3 Performance. The base Model 3 in China is priced at RMB 235,500 (approximately $32,800) and offers a range of 634 kilometers (394 miles).

Tesla’s decision to introduce this high-range option reflects its strategy to maintain a competitive edge in the Chinese market, where the electric vehicle landscape has rapidly evolved. In the first seven months of 2025, Tesla reported a decline of over 6% in sales compared to the previous year. Despite being a major player in the electric vehicle sector, the company faces increasing pressure from a growing number of competitors offering advanced technology and attractive pricing.
