Over 2 Million Pounds of Pork Jerky Recalled Due to Metal Contamination
More than 2 million pounds of ready-to-eat Korean barbecue pork jerky have been recalled due to potential contamination with metal pieces. The recall was initiated by LSI Inc., based in Alpena, South Dakota, and affects products shipped to various retail locations, including Costco and Sam’s Club across the United States.
The affected pork jerky, packaged in 14.5- and 16-ounce plastic pouches, features the Golden Island fire-grilled Pork Jerky Korean Barbecue recipe. The recall encompasses 50 lot codes, which can be found on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website. Consumers are advised to check their products, which have a shelf life extending to September 23, 2026, with best-by dates ranging from October 23, 2025 to September 23, 2026. The packaging also displays the USDA inspection mark with the code M279A.
The recall was prompted after multiple consumer complaints revealed the presence of metal fragments, identified by LSI Inc. as originating from a conveyor belt used during the production process.
Consumers who have purchased the affected products are urged to dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. For further assistance, customers can contact LSI Inc. at [email protected].
For additional information regarding this recall, individuals can reach out to the USDA meat and poultry hotline at 888-674-6854 or utilize the online chat service available weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Alternatively, inquiries can be sent via email to [email protected]. Those wanting to report any issues with meat, poultry, or egg products can do so through the USDA’s electronic consumer-complaint monitoring system, which is accessible online.
As food safety remains a critical concern, this recall underscores the importance of consumer vigilance in checking food products for potential hazards.
