North Port Chamber Achieves Record Fundraising for Police Program
The North Port Area Chamber of Commerce has successfully raised a record amount for its annual Shop With a Cop program, a collaborative initiative with the North Port Police Department. This year, the program collected over $15,000 along with numerous Walmart gift cards to support local children in need during the festive season.
The partnership between the Chamber and the police department has been ongoing for over five years, demonstrating a strong commitment to community engagement. The funds raised will enable police officers to take children shopping for gifts, fostering positive interactions between law enforcement and the youth of North Port, Florida.
Community Impact and Involvement
Local businesses and residents have rallied around this initiative, showcasing the community’s generosity. The Chamber has organized various fundraising events, including charity dinners and auctions, to bolster contributions for the program. According to the Chamber’s President, Lisa Johnson, “The overwhelming support we received this year reflects the heart of our community. We believe in making a difference for our children and building trust between them and our police officers.”
This year’s funds will allow the police to assist approximately 100 children, ensuring they have a memorable holiday experience. Each child will receive a gift card to Walmart, allowing them to choose their desired gifts, thereby promoting a sense of ownership and joy during the festive season. The Shop With a Cop program not only provides gifts but also aims to strengthen the relationship between officers and community members.
Future Goals and Aspirations
Looking ahead, the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce is aiming to expand the program even further. Plans are in place to enhance outreach efforts and involve more local businesses in the fundraising process. The Chamber hopes to increase the amount raised next year to further accommodate the growing number of children in need.
The continued success of the Shop With a Cop program is a testament to the collaborative spirit of the North Port community. As the Chamber and the police department work together, they not only provide support for local families but also foster a safer and more connected community.
In conclusion, the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce’s achievement this year highlights the importance of community involvement and the profound impact of programs like Shop With a Cop. With ongoing support, the Chamber is poised to make an even greater difference in the lives of local children in the years to come.
