Tim Sherwood Analyzes Benjamin Sesko’s Impact in United’s Win

Former player and Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood highlighted a notable aspect of Manchester United’s tactics during their recent match against Sunderland. The focus was on the performance of forward Benjamin Sesko, who has now scored in consecutive Premier League matches since his transfer from RB Leipzig.
In a commanding display at Old Trafford, United secured a 2-0 victory over Sunderland. The match saw Sesko continue his scoring streak, adding a goal following an earlier strike from Mason Mount. Sesko’s goal came just before half-time, facilitated by a long throw-in from Diogo Dalot, which was flicked on by Nordi Mukiele. The Slovenian international finished with confidence, extending United’s lead.
Sherwood remarked on the tactical shift that saw United employ a more direct approach in getting the ball to Sesko. He stated, “It’s interesting how Man Utd are going about this. They’re playing directly into Sesko. I’ve never seen him have so many touches so early in a game. It’s pleasing to see.”
This change in strategy aimed to maximize Sesko’s involvement and impact on the game. Sherwood noted that this approach allowed the striker to link effectively with teammates such as Mount and Bryan Mbeumo, creating a consistent threat to Sunderland’s defense.
United took a comfortable lead into the break and maintained their advantage throughout the second half. Sherwood praised how involved Sesko was in the first half, asserting, “He’s had more touches in the first half here than in all the other games. They’re making him feel like he’s part of it.”
The victory has propelled Manchester United to ninth place in the Premier League standings. Their next challenge will come on October 19, 2023, as they face Liverpool at Anfield. As the team continues to find its rhythm, the integration of players like Sesko will be pivotal for their ambitions this season.
