Ken Stanford, a distinguished Metallurgy Scientist and Industrial Journalist, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy marked by passion, kindness, and a vibrant spirit. Born and educated in England, Ken’s career took him across the globe, where he made significant contributions to the field of metallurgy while also nurturing his love for music and culture.

Ken pursued his studies on the depletion of copper resources at both Sheffield and Manchester Universities. His academic background laid the foundation for a successful career that combined science and journalism, allowing him to share insights on metallurgy with a broader audience. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, he and his wife, Lesley, organized trips to the New Orleans Jazz Festival, bridging cultures for European music fans.

A Life Filled with Music and Football

Ken’s personality shone through in his love for music and dancing. As a Mod in 1960s England, he was known for his sharp fashion sense, often riding his distinctive purple Vespa adorned with copper side panels. His quick wit and humor made him a cherished friend to many, and he brought joy into the lives of those around him.

An avid football supporter, Ken was a lifelong fan of West Bromwich Albion. He devoted his loyalty to the team through various seasons, sharing his enthusiasm for the sport with his family and friends. Ken’s generosity and kindness were evident in his relationships; he was a good listener, always offering support and companionship.

Ken’s family remembers him fondly. He is survived by his wife, Lesley, his children, Jamie and Katie, and his half-sister, Pip. His passing has left a void in their lives, but his spirit lives on in the memories they share.

A Celebration of Life and Legacy

A memorial service will be held on October 6, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Old St. Hilary Church, located at 201 Esperanza Street, Tiburon, CA. The service will be assisted by Monte’s Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo. Family and friends are encouraged to attend this celebration of Ken’s life, where they will honor his contributions to science, music, and community.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to PD-Connect, P.O. Box 398, Corte Madera, CA 94976, in remembrance of Ken’s generous spirit. His family hopes to continue his legacy of kindness and community engagement through this initiative.

As William Shakespeare penned, “Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet Prince, And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.” Ken Stanford will be deeply missed, but his impact on those who knew him will endure.
