L’Anse Creuse North and Armada Claim Golf Championships in Michigan

In a decisive display of skill, the girls’ golf teams from Macomb L’Anse Creuse North and Armada secured championships in their respective conferences this week. L’Anse Creuse North dominated the Macomb Area Conference (MAC) White Division, finishing the season with a perfect record of 10-0 in dual matches. The team’s impressive performance culminated in a strong showing at the MAC White Division Tournament held at St. Clair Shores Country Club on October 3, 2023.

The Crusaders achieved a total score of 383 in a play-six, count-four format, solidifying their position at the top of the league. Senior Mila Menendez led the charge with a co-medalist score of 85, while senior Aubrey Hoaward followed closely with a score of 91, placing fourth overall. Sophomore Ellie Howard and junior Olivia Frontera also contributed valuable scores of 100 and 112, respectively.

Runner-Up Teams and Individual Performances

Finishing in second place was Utica Ford, which recorded a team score of 455. This included a strong performance from senior Emma Ostrowski, who also shot an 85, earning co-medalist honors alongside Menendez. Notable individual performances from the Falcons included senior Lexi Alfonsi, who placed fifth with a score of 94.

Other teams in the tournament included St. Clair Shores Lakeview with a score of 468, Clinton Township Chippewa Valley at 478, and Sterling Heights Stevenson at 499. L’Anse Creuse did not field a complete team score.

In the dual match standings, Lakeview currently holds a record of 7-2 with one match pending, while Ford stands at 6-3. Chippewa Valley finished the season at 4-6, L’Anse Creuse at 2-8, and Stevenson completed the season without a win at 0-10.

Armada Triumphs in BWAC Championship

October 2, 2023, at Holly Meadows Golf Course. The team posted a total score of 376, overcoming Yale, which finished second with a score of 380. Only two teams broke the 400-mark, showcasing the competitive nature of the event.

Leading Armada was junior medalist Annelise Huston, who completed the round with a score of 80. The team featured four golfers in the top 13, including seniors Kassidy Rhoads (96) and Jane Noch (97), along with freshman Addyson Rose (103). Junior Jillian Dean also contributed with a score of 105, although she did not factor into the team total.

Yale’s junior Morgan Guerbe finished as the runner-up with an 85, while North Branch’s Mia Swoish claimed third place with a score of 92. Yale had several other strong finishes, including a tie for fifth place between senior Abbie Kean and others.

As the high school golf season progresses, both L’Anse Creuse North and Armada will look to build on their recent successes, showcasing the talent and determination of their players in upcoming competitions. The strong performances from these teams not only reflect their hard work throughout the season but also set a promising tone for future events.
