The Baltimore Orioles are set to interview Tony Mansolino as they continue their search for a new manager following a disappointing season. Mike Elias, the team’s general manager, confirmed this development in a press conference on Monday. The Orioles aim to find a leader capable of guiding the team back to the playoffs after a challenging year that concluded with a 75-87 record.

Mansolino, who served as the Orioles’ third base coach and infield instructor, was appointed as interim manager in May 2023 after the firing of former manager Brandon Hyde. Under Mansolino’s leadership, the team managed a record of 60 wins and 59 losses for the remainder of the season. Despite this improvement, the Orioles finished last in the American League East, hampered by injuries and a significant roster overhaul during the trade deadline.

At 43 years old, Mansolino had not previously managed at the Major League Baseball (MLB) level before stepping into this role. His coaching career began in the minor leagues with the Cleveland Guardians organization, where he ascended through the ranks before joining the Orioles in 2021. His experience positioned him as the most senior coach on staff when Hyde was dismissed, but the front office will evaluate his candidacy against other potential candidates.

This offseason is particularly crucial for the Orioles. After missing the playoffs for the first time since 2022, the franchise faces significant challenges. The once-promising young core of players has regressed, and the team has yet to secure a playoff victory since Elias was appointed as general manager prior to the 2019 season. In addition to the managerial search, Elias must also address key personnel decisions, including the potential hiring of a general manager, as well as filling numerous roster gaps.

As the offseason unfolds, the Orioles’ front office is expected to take a comprehensive approach to shape the team’s future. The search for a new manager represents just one aspect of a broader strategy aimed at revitalizing the franchise and returning to postseason contention. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
