Jennifer Lopez Reflects on Ben Affleck Divorce: “It Changed Me”

Jennifer Lopez has opened up about her divorce from Ben Affleck, revealing the profound impact it has had on her life. In a candid interview, Lopez discussed her personal struggles while promoting her upcoming film, Kiss of the Spider Woman, set to hit theaters across the United States on October 10, 2025.
The couple’s relationship has seen significant ups and downs, beginning in 2002 and culminating in their marriage in 2022. However, Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. Their divorce was finalized in January 2025. Despite the challenges, Lopez has found a silver lining in the experience.
Lopez Discusses Personal Growth
During her interview with Lee Cowan on CBS Sunday Morning, Lopez described the divorce as “the best thing that ever happened” to her. She noted that it prompted significant personal growth, stating, “It changed me. It helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow. [I] became more self-aware.”
Lopez emphasized her transformation, saying, “I am a different person now than I was last year, a year and a half ago.” This reflection comes as she balances her professional and personal life, particularly while working on Kiss of the Spider Woman.
Cowan highlighted Affleck’s involvement in the film, noting that he is one of its producers. Lopez acknowledged his contributions, affirming that the project would not have materialized without Affleck and his production company, Artists Equity. “I will always give him that credit,” she remarked, clarifying that Affleck had financed the film’s development.
Navigating Joy and Heartache
Lopez described the production experience as both fulfilling and challenging. “Every moment on set, every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy,” she shared. Yet, she contrasted that with her home life during the divorce, saying, “back home, it was not great.”
She reflected on the difficulty of reconciling these contrasting experiences, saying, “How do I reconcile this? But you get through it.” This statement captures the duality of her emotional landscape during a turbulent period.
As Lopez looks forward to the film’s release, she carries with her the lessons learned from her marriage and subsequent divorce, illustrating a journey of resilience and self-discovery.
