Sanchez-Palacios rejected the motion, stating, “I cannot adjourn in memory of this individual. And out of respect for the tradition of honoring those who uplift rather than divide, I will not be adjourning this meeting in his memory tonight.”

Kirk has made numerous statements criticized as divisive, including remarks about Black women and qualifications for pilots.
