Astros’ Altuve Exits Game with Foot Discomfort in Atlanta Win
The Houston Astros faced an injury concern during their 6-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves on March 30, 2024, when nine-time All-Star Jose Altuve exited the game due to discomfort in his right foot. Altuve, who singled in the third inning, was replaced after experiencing pain while trying to advance on a ground ball hit by teammate Jesus Sanchez.
Astros manager Joe Espada confirmed the situation, stating, “He came in and he said, ‘My foot is bothering me.’ So I took him out. Just being cautious.” Following his exit, Altuve remained in the dugout but was evaluated by a team doctor after the game. He did not provide any comments to the media regarding his condition.
Espada emphasized the need to monitor Altuve’s health, saying, “We want to keep an eye on it and see how it is tomorrow.” Altuve’s health is critical for the Astros, who entered the match tied with the Seattle Mariners for first place in the American League West division.
Altuve has been a vital player for the Astros this season, currently holding a batting average of .264 and leading the team with 25 home runs. At 35 years old, he has shown remarkable durability, having played 144 games and recorded 552 at-bats. He also ranks second on the team with 70 runs batted in.
In his 15th season with Houston, Altuve has accumulated 2,378 career hits, placing him behind only Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, who holds the franchise record with 3,060 hits. Earlier this season, Altuve surpassed another Hall of Famer, Jeff Bagwell, to become second on the team’s all-time hits list.
As the Astros look to maintain their position in the AL West, the team will be eager for updates on Altuve’s condition. His performance and leadership are essential as they navigate the remainder of the season.
