Blue Alert Issued After Police Officer Shot in Georgia

Authorities have issued a statewide Blue Alert in North Carolina following a violent incident involving a police officer in Georgia. Capt. Brantley Worley of the McCaysville Police Department was critically injured after being shot while responding to a call for service on the night of November 3, 2023.

The shooting occurred shortly after 11:10 p.m. in McCaysville, Georgia, which is located approximately two miles from the North Carolina border. Capt. Worley sustained a serious injury to the throat during the incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that the suspect, identified as Timothy Craig Ramsey, age 26, is wanted for aggravated assault with intent to murder a police officer.

Suspect Considered Armed and Dangerous

According to police reports, Ramsey fled the scene wearing a bright green chemical-resistant suit and a dark-colored motorcycle helmet. He is believed to be in the vicinity of Cherokee County, North Carolina, where authorities have intensified their search efforts. The North Carolina Blue Alert emphasizes that Ramsey is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

The alert system is activated in response to violent attacks against law enforcement officers, and it has been extended to areas in Georgia, including Fannin, Gilmer, and Union counties. Residents in these areas received an alert on their cellphones, urging them to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the suspect.
