Texas Governor Greg Abbott has enhanced the oversight of respiratory care in the state by appointing three new members to the Texas Board of Respiratory Care. This announcement, made by the Governor’s office, includes the appointments of Matthew Goldwater, a reappointment of Samuel Brown, and Hammad Qureshi, M.D., all of whom will serve until February 1, 2031.
These appointments are pivotal in advising the Texas Medical Board, ensuring the quality of care provided by respiratory therapists, and establishing the regulations governing the profession. The expertise of these individuals is expected to strengthen the board’s effectiveness and responsiveness to the evolving needs of respiratory care in Texas.
Matthew Goldwater returns to the board with a wealth of experience. Currently a senior sales executive for ventilation at Dräger, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy and an MBA. Beyond his corporate role, Goldwater actively contributes to his community as a coach for the Georgetown Youth Baseball Association, demonstrating a commitment to nurturing young talent both on and off the field.
In contrast, Samuel Brown brings a diverse set of skills drawn from his background in information technology and network administration, developed during his time with Louis A. Williams & Associates. His academic journey spans institutions such as East Texas Baptist University and Tarleton State University. Brown is not only a professional in his field but also serves as an ordained minister and mentor, integrating his technical expertise with a passion for coaching and education.
Completing the trio is Hammad Qureshi, M.D., whose extensive medical background includes specialties in Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, and Internal Medicine. Dr. Qureshi, a graduate of King Edward Medical College, has honed his skills through rigorous training, including participation in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Methodist Hospital The Woodlands. His international medical experience adds a valuable perspective to the board’s discussions and decisions.
With these appointments, the Texas Board of Respiratory Care is poised to address the challenges and opportunities facing respiratory care professionals. The board’s new members will play a crucial role in shaping policies that safeguard public health and enhance the quality of care across the state. As they take on their responsibilities, their collective experience and commitment to the field will undoubtedly influence the future of respiratory care in Texas.
