Netflix’s The Night Agent Loses Star Luciane Buchanan for Season 3

Luciane Buchanan, known for her role as Rose Larkin in Netflix’s acclaimed series The Night Agent, has confirmed she will not return for the show’s upcoming third season. This announcement comes after her significant success on a competing streaming platform, where she has landed a role in the new series Chief of War.
The news follows a successful second season of The Night Agent, which saw FBI agent Peter Sutherland, played by Gabriel Basso, navigating fresh challenges while investigating a mole within the FBI. The chemistry between Sutherland and Larkin resonated with viewers, making them a beloved duo in the series that draws inspiration from Matthew Quirk‘s novel.
Filming for season three is set to begin in Istanbul in 2024, with production moving to New York in 2025. While fans eagerly await the next installment, Buchanan’s departure has raised concerns among the series’ followers.
In an exclusive interview with Deadline, Buchanan stated, “I won’t be returning to season 3 of The Night Agent.” She described her experience on the show as “amazing” and a “whirlwind.” The decision to exclude her character was made by the writers, who opted to focus on Peter’s journey following the events of season two. “We don’t get to see what happens to Rose, but I think it’s a really exciting time for the show, and who knows, it’s not a goodbye forever,” she added.
The decision to not recast Rose has also been addressed by Shawn Ryan, the showrunner of The Night Agent. He acknowledged Buchanan as a “beloved member” of the team but noted that season three “didn’t have a satisfying place for Rose.” Ryan expressed hope that circumstances might allow for Rose’s return in the future, stating, “I hope circumstances ultimately allow for the return of Rose to our Night Agent universe.”
Despite this optimism, many fans have taken to social media to voice their disappointment over Rose’s absence in the upcoming season. Comments on platforms like X reflect a deep attachment to the character, with one fan exclaiming, “Rose not being in the night agent S3? What?!” Another lamented, “The Night Agent is literally nothing without Rose Larkin and Peter’s story development.”
As the series prepares for its next chapter, fans can continue to enjoy The Night Agent, which remains available for streaming on Netflix. The departure of Luciane Buchanan marks a significant change for the show, leaving both viewers and creators to ponder the implications for the storyline moving forward.
