Sickle cell disease, recognized as the most common inherited blood disorder in the United States, affects around 100,000 Americans and approximately 7.74 million individuals globally. In response to this pressing health concern, the Dream Chasers Sickle Cell Foundation is hosting its third annual Community Sickle Cell Awareness Walk in Beaufort, South Carolina, aimed at raising awareness and funds for research.

The event is scheduled for September 13, 2023, from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Cross Creek Shopping Center, located at 330 Robert Smalls Parkway. Participants can register for a fee of $10, which will directly support the foundation’s mission to educate the community about sickle cell disease and its impact on affected individuals and their families.

Co-founders of the foundation, Celeste Walls and Darrius Brockington, discussed their commitment to this cause in an interview with WSAV’s Kim Gusby. They emphasized the importance of community involvement in supporting sickle cell warriors and their families. The foundation strives not only to raise funds for research but also to foster a supportive network for those affected by the disease.

The Community Sickle Cell Awareness Walk serves as a vital platform for educating attendees about sickle cell disease, its symptoms, and the ongoing need for research toward a cure. As the foundation continues its efforts, support from the community will play a pivotal role in advancing awareness and funding critical research initiatives.

For further details about the event, interested individuals can contact the foundation at (843) 476-0192 or via email at [email protected]. This event not only highlights the challenges faced by individuals living with sickle cell disease but also embodies the spirit of community solidarity in the fight against this condition.
