Kamala Harris Critiques Biden’s Reelection Decision in New Book

Former Vice President Kamala Harris has publicly criticized President Joe Biden in her upcoming book, “107 Days.” She argues that his decision to run for reelection in the 2024 election stemmed from personal ambition rather than a collective strategy, describing the process as “recklessness.” This revelation adds a significant layer to the political landscape as the election approaches.
In her book, Harris details her brief campaign for the presidency, which occurred after Biden faced challenges during a debate against Donald Trump in June. She asserts that the stakes were too high for the reelection decision to be left solely to Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. In an excerpt from “107 Days,” she wrote, “‘It’s Joe and Jill’s decision.’ We all said that, like a mantra, as if we’d all been hypnotized.”
Harris emphasizes that the decision should not have been driven by an individual’s “ego” or “ambition.” She firmly believes that a more collaborative approach was necessary. “This wasn’t a choice that should have been left to an individual’s ego,” she stated, arguing for a broader consideration of the implications of the decision.
As the campaign unfolded, Harris felt unsupported by Biden’s team during critical moments. She noted that when her poll numbers began to rise, Biden’s team seemed uncomfortable with the contrast between their standings. “None of them grasped that if I did well, he did well,” Harris remarked. “Given the concerns about his age, my visible success as his vice president was vital.”
Harris maintains her loyalty to Biden, recognizing his strengths in office while also asserting her commitment to the country. “On his worst day, he was more deeply knowledgeable, more capable of exercising judgment, and far more compassionate than Donald Trump on his best,” she wrote. However, she acknowledges the challenges posed by Biden’s age, stating, “At 81, Joe got tired. That’s when his age showed in physical and verbal stumbles.”
These insights from Harris’s book provide a candid look at the dynamics within the Biden administration and the challenges faced as the Democratic Party prepares for the 2024 election.
As the political landscape evolves, Harris’s perspective raises significant questions about leadership, decision-making, and the implications of personal ambition in the highest offices of government. The release of “107 Days” is likely to spark further discussion regarding these themes, especially as voters consider the candidates for the upcoming election.
