Utah State faced a challenging opponent in the #19 Texas A&M Aggies, ultimately falling 44-22 in a college football game on October 7, 2023, at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas. Despite the loss, Utah State showed resilience against a powerful Texas A&M team led by quarterback Marcel Reed, who threw for three touchdowns and added another on the ground.

The game began with Texas A&M striking first. Reed connected with Terry Bussey for a 34-yard touchdown pass, emphasizing A&M’s offensive strength. Utah State responded effectively, converting a fourth down on a trick play. Anthony Garcia, a wide receiver and former quarterback, threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Miles Davis, narrowing the score to 7-6 after a failed two-point conversion.

As the first half progressed, Texas A&M seized control. The Aggies scored 23 unanswered points, starting with a touchdown run from Reed. A 21-yard touchdown by Le’Veon Moss followed, along with another touchdown pass from Reed to KC Concepcion, pushing the halftime score to 30-6.

Utah State emerged from the locker room with renewed energy, scoring the first touchdown of the second half. Bryson Barnes connected with Braden Pegan for a 14-yard touchdown, reducing the deficit to 30-14 after a successful two-point conversion. However, Texas A&M quickly responded, with Reed throwing his second touchdown to Concepcion from eight yards out, extending the lead to 37-14.

The Aggies’ dominance continued when Miles O’Neill replaced Reed and tossed a touchdown pass to Mario Craver, who sprinted 72 yards for the score. Although Utah State fought back with a second touchdown from Barnes to Davis, it proved insufficient as the game neared its conclusion.

Barnes completed 16 of 31 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, Davis led Utah State with 50 yards on nine carries, while Brady Boyd topped the receiving charts with six catches for 87 yards. The Aggies’ offense amassed an impressive 554 total yards, compared to Utah State’s 254 yards. The Utah State team also struggled with discipline, committing 11 penalties for 72 yards.

In a standout performance, Reed completed 19 of 28 passes for 228 yards, adding 66 rushing yards before exiting the game due to injury. Craver emerged as Texas A&M’s leading receiver, finishing with five catches for 114 yards.

With this defeat, Utah State’s record now stands at 1-1 for the season, as they prepare for their Mountain West Conference opener against Air Force next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 18:45 at Maverik Stadium in Logan, Utah.
