Canine Swim Therapy Center in Western New York Promotes Healing
In Orchard Park, New York, SandDancer Canine Swim Therapy provides essential aquatic therapy for dogs, enabling them to heal from injuries and manage chronic conditions throughout the year. This unique center is the only one of its kind in Western New York, offering a vital service for pets in need of rehabilitation.
Many dogs, like Duke, a young pup who recently celebrated his first birthday, benefit from the specialized treatments offered at SandDancer. During his special day, Duke enjoyed swimming laps in the pool while being showered with treats. His owner, Courtney, expressed gratitude for the transformation Duke has undergone since his rescue from a ditch in Lockport. After being adopted, the dog faced challenges with hip dysplasia, and swimming has played a crucial role in his recovery. “There’s been a huge transformation,” Courtney remarked, noting that Duke has become more energetic and active, avoiding the need for surgery.
The facility has a deep commitment to helping dogs. Nicole Barmore, who now runs SandDancer alongside her husband, first visited the center years ago seeking therapy for their own dog. Following the owner’s retirement, Barmore took on the responsibility of continuing the operation. “I just want to keep this going because we help so many dogs,” she stated. “We help dogs stay mobile, as well as those that have had surgery and come here for rehabilitation.”
Unique Approach to Canine Rehabilitation
SandDancer Canine Swim Therapy prides itself on being the sole facility of its kind in the region. “You will see results in four weeks,” Barmore assured, emphasizing the effectiveness of the programs offered. Each session lasts for 45 minutes, and the cost is approximately $60, varying based on individual pet needs. Sessions are available by appointment only, ensuring personalized attention for every dog.
The center’s approach to therapy resonates with many pet owners who consider their dogs as integral members of the family. “A lot of us want to care for our dogs like we would our children,” said Ruth, Duke’s swim coach. This sentiment underscores the importance of providing the best nutrition, exercise, and medical care to ensure a long, healthy life for their pets.
As the only dog swim therapy center in Western New York, SandDancer plays a pivotal role in the community. By fostering an environment where dogs can heal through swimming, the center not only supports physical rehabilitation but also enhances the quality of life for many beloved pets.
The commitment of SandDancer Canine Swim Therapy to the health and well-being of dogs reflects a growing recognition of the importance of specialized therapies for pets. As more pet owners seek effective rehabilitation options, facilities like SandDancer are becoming essential resources in the quest for better health and mobility for our four-legged companions.
