Art enthusiasts can explore a vibrant array of works this September, as local galleries across the region feature a compelling selection of fine art and crafts. From contemporary photography to mixed media pieces, the exhibitions present something for every taste and interest.

Featured Artists and Their Works

At /m in St. John’s College, visitors can admire Luis Camnitzer‘s striking piece titled “Compass.” Meanwhile, Susan Hostetler showcases her captivating work “Caged Birds,” which combines clay and brushed steel at Jo Fleming Contemporary Art. The MFA at 49 West hosts Sarah Matthews with her mixed media print “Break,” while Christopher B. Fowler presents “Woodland Hyacinths,” a film photography display for the Midsummer Madness event at MFA Maryland Hall.

In the realm of photography, Peter T. West captures the essence of music with “Portrait of a Violinist,” part of the “Havana through Cuban Eyes” exhibition at Quiet Waters Park. At the same venue, Lois Engberg features her vibrant oil painting “Sunflowers & Goldfinch.”

Other noteworthy pieces include Tatsuki Hakoyama‘s solarplate work “Some of Us Still Enjoy the Rain,” appearing in the Imprint exhibition at MFA Maryland Hall, and Deborah Schwab’s oil painting “Lone Loblolly,” also displayed at Quiet Waters Park.

Ocean-inspired works by Al Barker, such as “Grey Day Surf” and “Sailboat Races II,” are available at the Annapolis Marine Art Gallery. Another artist, Harriet Smith, exhibits “Chasing Color: The Emotions Behind the Brush Series #17,” an acrylic on canvas at MFA at Paul’s.

In the realm of contemporary art, Ernest Shaw features his charcoal work “Scholar” at the Yumi Hogan International Art Gallery at BWI Airport. Digital art enthusiasts can explore Rich Isaacman’s “Garden at the Gates of Hell,” a digital print on metal, also part of “The Changing Americas” at MFA Circle Gallery.

Other captivating works include Jabari Jefferson‘s mixed media piece “But Not This Time,” showcasing oil, paper collage, and textiles at the Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum, and Marc Roman’s “Spruce Head 2,” an acrylic and oil on canvas at Jo Fleming Contemporary Art.
