Tybee Island Issues Double Red Flags Due to Dangerous Surf

Tybee Island, Georgia, has implemented safety measures this weekend as lifeguards began flying double red flags on Sunday. The Tybee Island Ocean Rescue (TIOR) issued this warning due to the presence of dangerous rip currents and strong surf conditions, which prohibit swimming in the ocean.
According to TIOR, swimming is strictly forbidden under these hazardous circumstances. Visitors can wade in the water up to their knees, although this activity is not advised given the current conditions. Surfing, on the other hand, remains permitted, as long as surfers are vigilant and aware of the risks involved.
The double red flags serve as a clear visual warning to beachgoers about the potential dangers in the water. TIOR strongly encourages all visitors to stay alert and consult a lifeguard for any questions or concerns regarding safety and ocean conditions.
As the summer season approaches, it is crucial for beachgoers to heed warning signs and prioritize their safety while enjoying Tybee Island’s beautiful coastline. Lifeguards are stationed along the beach to assist and provide guidance, ensuring that visitors have a safe experience despite the challenging surf conditions.
