Texas Tech University strengthened its 2027 recruiting class with the commitment of five-star offensive tackle Cooper Hackett on Saturday. The announcement came shortly after the Red Raiders’ decisive victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their season opener. Standing at 6 feet 7 inches and weighing 250 pounds, Hackett is currently ranked as the No. 5 offensive tackle and the No. 19 overall prospect in the ESPN Junior 300.

Hackett’s commitment was made late Saturday night, just hours after he completed an on-campus visit at the University of Arkansas. His decision adds to an impressive month for the Red Raiders, who have also secured a pledge from outside linebacker LaDamion Guyton, ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect in the same recruiting class.

Impressive Momentum for Texas Tech’s Recruiting Efforts

This latest commitment marks a significant achievement for Joey McGuire, Texas Tech’s head coach, and general manager James Blanchard, who have been actively enhancing the team’s roster. Since June 1, the Red Raiders have welcomed a total of nine commitments for the 2026 class, including five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo, who is ranked No. 20 in the 2026 ESPN 300. If he signs later this year, Ojo will become the highest-ranked offensive line addition in the program’s history.

With Hackett and Guyton on board, Texas Tech stands out as the only program to feature multiple top 20 recruits in the ESPN prospect rankings for the 2027 recruiting cycle. Hackett’s athleticism and size, combined with his dual-sport background as a basketball player at Fort Gibson High School in Oklahoma, make him a valuable asset for the Red Raiders.

Future Visits and Continued Recruitment

Despite his commitment to Texas Tech, Hackett is expected to visit the University of Oklahoma next week when the Sooners host Michigan on September 9 at 19:30 ET, broadcast on ABC. This indicates that Hackett remains open to exploring options as he moves forward in his recruitment journey.

As Texas Tech continues to build a formidable roster, the commitments from high-profile recruits like Hackett and Guyton signal a promising future for the Red Raiders. The coaching staff’s efforts in attracting top talent reflect a clear strategy to establish Texas Tech as a competitive force in college football.
