Clyde Younkin Honored with Induction into Second Wind Hall of Fame
On August 26, 2025, Clyde Younkin was officially inducted into the Second Wind Hall of Fame, a recognition aimed at honoring volunteers aged 60 and over who continue to make significant contributions to their communities after retirement. The Polk County Appearance Commission nominated Younkin, and the board of the Hall of Fame approved the nomination during a meeting.
Community Engagement and Environmental Advocacy
Younkin serves as treasurer for the Polk County Appearance Commission and is a dedicated member of the Kudzu Warriors, a group affiliated with Conserving Carolina that focuses on removing invasive plant species. His involvement with the Kudzu Warriors spans four years, during which he has worked tirelessly to enhance the local environment.
In addition to his role with the Kudzu Warriors, Younkin has volunteered at various local organizations, including the Tryon International Equestrian Center, the Tryon Riding & Hunt Club, the Gardening for Life Project, and the Tryon Beer Festival. He is also part of a musical group that performs at festivals and assisted living facilities, showcasing his diverse interests and commitment to community service.
A Lifelong Commitment to Service
A resident of Polk County since June 2020, Younkin moved to the area from Moorestown, New Jersey, with his wife, Donna. Both have quickly become integral members of their new community. Younkin holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in physics and engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. His professional background includes experience as an engineer and as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Throughout his career, Younkin has demonstrated a strong commitment to service, having volunteered with Engineers Without Borders in Peru and at the Horse Park of New Jersey. His passion for environmental improvement is evident, and he hopes to leave a lasting legacy in this regard.
Younkin’s interests extend beyond volunteering; he enjoys horses, music, reading, and gardening. His well-rounded engagement with both recreational and community activities reflects the mission of the Second Wind Hall of Fame to celebrate those who “catch a second wind” in their lives after retirement.
For those interested in recognizing individuals who exemplify this spirit of service, nominations for the Second Wind Hall of Fame are currently being accepted. Interested parties can obtain request forms by emailing [email protected].
