Bengals Bolster Offensive Line to Protect Joe Burrow in 2025

The Cincinnati Bengals have made significant strides to enhance their offensive line in 2025, aiming to provide better protection for quarterback Joe Burrow. Following a challenging few seasons, during which Burrow faced considerable pressure from opposing defenses, the team has taken decisive steps to improve his support. Notably, the Bengals recently signed free agent Dalton Risner from the Minnesota Vikings, a move that promises to bolster the depth of their offensive line.
The addition of Risner is anticipated to have a substantial impact as he is expected to start at right guard once he acclimates to the team’s system. This follows a draft strategy that focused heavily on shoring up the offensive line. The Bengals selected Dylan Fairchild in the third round, who has quickly become a reliable presence at left guard. Moreover, Jalen Rivers, a fifth-round selection from Miami (FL), has impressed with his agility and size, standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 319 pounds. Together, they represent a significant upgrade in protection for Burrow, marking a turning point for the franchise and its aspirations.
Strengthening the Offensive Front
The offensive line has been a critical area of concern since Burrow joined the Bengals in 2020. Quarterbacks often struggle when faced with pressure up the middle, which disrupts their timing and can lead to hurried throws. The Bengals’ recent efforts to improve this aspect of their game are evident, with the addition of Risner complementing the performance of Fairchild and Rivers. This trio could provide Burrow with the best protection he has experienced in his professional career.
On the edges, the Bengals are looking to build on the established partnership of Orlando Brown Jr. and Amarius Mims. Both tackles return for their second year together, following a promising 2024 season. As Mims continues to develop, expectations are high that he will elevate his performance, especially with the improved play anticipated from the interior line. The Bengals will face a significant test in Week 1 against the formidable defensive line of the Cleveland Browns, offering a clear assessment of their progress.
Leadership and Stability
Anchoring this revamped offensive line is center Ted Karras, who enters the final year of his contract. Karras has consistently demonstrated his reliability on the field, as well as his leadership in the locker room and community. His experience and intelligence mirror Burrow’s approach to the game, fostering a strong working relationship between the two. The Bengals may consider extending Karras’s contract during the offseason, recognizing the value he brings to the team.
As the Bengals prepare for the upcoming season, the collective talent and depth on the offensive line signal a promising future. The front office, led by team owners, the Brown and Blackburn families, appears to have finally assembled a cohesive unit capable of supporting Burrow’s ambitions. With the right mix of talent, experience, and leadership, Cincinnati hopes to navigate the path toward a Super Bowl appearance, making the 2025 season one to watch.
