The high school football season in the Florida Panhandle has kicked off with an impressive display of talent and competitive spirit. As week one concludes, several athletes have emerged as standout players, contributing significantly to their teams’ successes. Fans are invited to participate in the excitement by voting for the Florida Panhandle High School Football Player of the Week.

Tamen Zabetakis from Choctawhatchee was the recipient of last week’s honor, showcasing his skills and leadership on the field. Voting for this week’s nominees will close on August 31 at 23:59 PT.

Highlighting This Week’s Top Players

Among the nominees for this week are:

Carter Nunes of Freeport, who led his team to a commanding 54-13 victory over North Bay Haven Academy. Nunes completed nearly 74 percent of his passes, totaling 300 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for one touchdown.

Julius Miles, also from Freeport, emerged as Nunes’s primary target, recording nine receptions for 201 yards and four touchdowns.

Despite a loss, Deagan McCoy from Niceville demonstrated his potential as a top quarterback, completing 70 percent of his passes for 246 yards and four touchdowns against Lincoln.

In a strong performance, JD Brown of South Walton facilitated a 35-6 win over Gulf Breeze, finishing with 270 yards and four touchdowns on 15 of 19 passing attempts.

In Blountstown, Curt Ellis showcased his elite skills with three receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns in a 56-3 win over Liberty County.

Other notable performances include Elijah Odom from Walton, who caught five passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-6 victory against Marianna, and Kyren Campbell, who made significant contributions on defense with eight solo tackles and a forced fumble.

Jonathan Flynn of Tate also stood out with over ten tackles, four sacks, and one fumble recovery in his opening game.

Makael Williams, recognized as one of the top running backs in the state, displayed his prowess despite a loss to Mary G. Montgomery (AL), rushing for 235 yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries.

In the 48-6 triumph over Vernon, Justice Baldwin completed 9 of 10 passes for 206 yards and four touchdowns, while Jaymes Youngblood rushed for 253 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries in a 40-0 win against Lighthouse Private Christian Academy.

Lastly, JP Holsombake of Mosley had a stellar debut, completing 15 of 18 passes for 225 yards and five touchdowns in a 64-15 victory over Rutherford.

Caden Jasso of Pensacola Catholic contributed significantly with six receptions for 126 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-27 win against Navarre, while teammate Caleb Willoughby rushed for 180 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries.
