The Miami Dolphins have officially signed cornerback Rasul Douglas to a one-year contract valued at $3 million. This move fills a critical gap in the team’s secondary, which has faced considerable challenges in recent seasons. The announcement came from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on August 26, 2025.

Douglas, who will turn 31 in August, was originally selected in the 2017 NFL Draft as a third-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles. Over the years, he has built an extensive career, playing for multiple franchises including the Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders, Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, and most recently, the Buffalo Bills.

With a total of 120 games played, Douglas has started 80 of them, showcasing his experience and versatility on the field. In the 2024 NFL season, he played 15 games for the Bills, recording 58 tackles without any interceptions. Prior to that, he had a notable performance in 2023 while splitting time between the Packers and the Bills, where he started eight games for Buffalo and achieved four interceptions.

Career Highlights and Performance Metrics

Throughout his career, Douglas has accumulated 19 interceptions and 441 tackles. His performance metrics from the previous season indicate a mixed level of success. According to Pro Football Focus, he earned a 59.2 overall grade as a cornerback, ranking 132 out of 222 players at that position. His coverage grade was slightly lower at 58.9, placing him 127 in the same ranking.

In terms of snap counts, Douglas participated in a total of 891 defensive snaps, with 493 of those in pass coverage situations. His passer rating allowed was 123.7, during which he surrendered 40 receptions.

As Douglas joins the Dolphins, he is expected to step into a starting role immediately, addressing a significant weakness in the team’s cornerback lineup. Reports indicate that Miami’s cornerback situation is currently one of the weakest in the NFL, making Douglas’s addition timely and necessary.

Future Outlook and Team Strategy

Douglas’s signing follows the unexpected release of cornerback Mike Hilton, which has prompted speculation about further roster changes. There are indications that the Dolphins may pursue additional cornerback support, potentially adding another veteran player to enhance their defensive options.

Should Douglas be healthy and ready for action, he is likely to start opposite Storm Duck in the Dolphins’ season opener against the Indianapolis Colts. As the team looks to strengthen its performance in the upcoming season, Douglas’s experience and skills could prove pivotal in their efforts to improve their defensive game.

The Dolphins aim to leverage Douglas’s extensive experience and past performance to bolster their secondary as they prepare for the challenges ahead in the 2025 NFL season.
