Forest Hill Elementary Unveils New Energy-Efficient Building
Students at Forest Hill Elementary School returned to classes on August 20, 2023, and experienced a notable change in their lunch routine. The school introduced a new multi-use building designed for energy efficiency, enhancing both dining and community engagement. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on August 22, 2023, marking the completion of the latest addition to the Campbell Union School District’s initiative toward sustainable infrastructure.
This state-of-the-art facility is the fifth “grid neutral” building developed by the district since 2013, joining others located at Blackford, Castlemont, and Lynhaven Elementary Schools, as well as Sherman Oaks Charter School. The construction was financed through the district’s 2010 Measure G school bond, reflecting a commitment to reducing overall energy consumption by 60 percent.
Enhanced Facilities for Students and Community
The new building is not just an architectural advancement; it is also designed to serve both educational and community purposes. With a capacity to accommodate more than 500 people, the facility features a stage equipped with a large rear-projection system, comprehensive stage lighting, and a built-in sound system for public address. Auxiliary rooms further enhance its utility, making it suitable for various events.
The redesign of the food service area aims to streamline the lunch process, allowing students to navigate through lines more efficiently. This adjustment is intended to maximize their time for eating and recreational activities before returning to their classrooms.
Art That Inspires and Reflects Community Spirit
The multi-use building also showcases local art, featuring two vibrant panels created by artist Sonya Paz. Titled “Playful Music & Education” and “The Sky’s the Limit,” these pieces are designed to resonate with students, encouraging them to reflect on the importance of education, arts, and music.
In a statement, Chelsea Armann, vice principal of Forest Hill, expressed her enthusiasm about the new artwork: “I am thrilled that our new multi-use room will include colorful and joyful art pieces that reflect the spirit and personality of our school. This artwork gives true Forest Hill Falcon character and life to a space that might otherwise seem a little impersonal.”
The opening of this new facility not only signifies a step forward in energy conservation but also enriches the educational environment for the students of Forest Hill Elementary. As the Campbell Union School District continues to prioritize sustainability, it sets a precedent for future developments in educational infrastructure.
