Ravens Sidestep Injury Scare with Lamar Jackson’s Foot Update

The Baltimore Ravens received reassuring news regarding quarterback Lamar Jackson after he sustained a foot injury during practice. On Wednesday, Jackson was accidentally stepped on, leading to concerns about potential damage. Fortunately, X-rays revealed no injuries, a relief shared by Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. “I told the guys, ‘Prayers do get answered,'” Harbaugh stated in a press conference on Thursday. “I was praying.”
While Jackson did not participate in Thursday’s practice, Harbaugh emphasized that the decision was purely precautionary. “I’m sure it’s a little sore today, so we just kept him in,” he explained. “But he’s fine. He’s going to be good.” With the team’s regular-season opener against the Buffalo Bills scheduled for September 7, 2024, it is prudent for the Ravens to allow Jackson time to recover.
Jackson, 28, has a history of injuries that have impacted his playing time. He missed ten games over the previous two seasons due to knee and back issues. These absences have affected the Ravens’ playoff ambitions, resulting in an 8-9 finish in 2021 and a wild-card loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022, despite the team making the postseason with backup quarterback Tyler Huntley.
The Ravens have an experienced backup in Cooper Rush, who recorded a 9-5 record in 14 starts during his time with the Dallas Cowboys. Nevertheless, the team is eager to keep Jackson healthy, as he remains one of the most dynamic players in the NFL. Jackson has received numerous accolades, including league MVP and two first-team All-Pro selections in the past two seasons. In 2024, he ranked sixth in the league in passing yards, amassing 4,172 yards across 17 games, and tied for second in touchdown passes with 41.
As the Ravens gear up for the upcoming season, they see 2025 as a pivotal year in their quest for a championship. Currently, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, they are co-favorites for the Super Bowl alongside the Philadelphia Eagles, both listed at +700 odds. A serious injury to Jackson could have significantly undermined Baltimore’s championship hopes, making the positive update a relief for the organization and its fans. With Jackson’s status clarified, the Ravens can focus on their preparations for a promising season ahead.
